Digicel Guyana launches 10th anniversary with charity drive

first_imgIn two weeks’ time, telecommunications giant Digicel will be celebrating its 10th year of operations in Guyana, and the company has kicked off its celebrations with a massive charity drive.According to Digicel Marketing Executive Jacqueline James, the company will be focused on giving back to its customers throughout the year.“For this year we are focusing on charity; we are focusing on giving back to community, so that will be our main thing for our anniversary celebrations thisSt John Bosco Orphanage was the first stop as Digicel Guyana embarks on a massive charity drive ahead of its 10 year anniversarymonth and there is no better way to start.” The first stop of the charity drive was at the St John Bosco Orphanage in Plaisance, East Coast Demerara on Tuesday morning. During the drive, the company donated items such as books (both exercise and reading), back packs with pencils, and school shoes to the 50-odd young boys at the orphanage.James, along with the Digicel team, interacted with the boys and even assisted some of them in trying on their new pair of much-needed school shoes. The boys, whose ages range from four to 16 years, were delighted to accept the acts of kindness and thanked the company for remembering them. The children were also treated to a light snack early in the morning before heading off to school with their new gear. In addition, Digicel also presented the administrators of the orphanage with a brand new washing machine.According to the company’s Marketing Executive, Digicel will be undertaking several similar initiatives in commemoration of its anniversary.“So, this year, for Digicel’s 10th anniversary we are doing 10 charities prior to our anniversary celebrations on February 14th. So, 10 days prior to that, we will be doing charities. So, every day, we will be out doing something, somewhere within Guyana…So we have a lot of places we gave to visit – all in 10 days.”Moreover, James noted that during this charity drive, the company would also be focused on the special needs schools such as Gifted Hands, Tuschen Deaf Academy, New Amsterdam Special Needs and the Linden Special Care Projects.Furthermore, Digicel’s Marketing Head has pledged the company’s continued commitment to charity, noting that it could be called upon at any time. The St John Bosco Orphanage, which has been providing a home for orphaned boys since 1879, is run by the Roman Catholic Sisters of Mercy, which is represented by Mother Superior Julie Matthews, who is the Director and Grace Daniels, the Administrator.last_img read more
